The Toyota GT86 TRD is a special edition vehicle made by Toyota’s Race Development. This gorgeous coupe features an improved suspension, new tires, a more aerodynamic body and a quad exhaust system. However, the release of the new GT86 was a little disappointing for the racer fans who were expecting more performance upgrades. Furthermore, this car also comes with a $10.800 price increase which most people consider to be unjustified. Lets take a closer look at this vehicle and see whether or not it was worth the wait.Toyota GT86 TRD Picture
As we mentioned above, few improvements were made to the car’s performance. The new Toyota GT86 TRD is powered by a 1998/4 engine which has a max power of 197 horse power at 7000 rotations per minute. Its pulling power is 151 lb/ft. However, despite the fact that it has no power improvements, it still has a superior agility and composure, compared to other competitive models. It has a 140 mph top speed and it can go from 0 to 62 miles in 7.6 seconds. This is not the most impressive performance and it can be quite dull for some drivers, especially since you have to give the engine a few pushes in order for it to perform well. However, the car does have a slick 6-speed manual transmission and its pedals are very comfortable and well positioned which can make the driving experience a little more entertaining.
- Technical improvements
Despite the fact that no major improvements were made to the car’s performance, it does have a lot of great technical upgrades and modifications. It features a new exhaust system with quad tailpipes which allow the car to breathe lightly. The car also features some improvements in its fuel economy and CO2 emissions.
The Toyota GT86 TRD runs on 18 inch alloy wheels which are an inch bigger than the standard model. The standard Toyota Prius-sourced Michelin Primacys were replaced with Yokohama Advan Sport tires. The aerodynamic body kit includes side skirts, a new splinter and a diffuser. The TRD symbols are nicely used on the fuel filler cap and the gear knob.
The standard version of the Toyota GT86 TRD comes with a Cruise Control System but if you want a satellite Navigation System, it will cost you another $1.245. You will have to spend another $2.600. The GT86 TRD features heated, front electric mirrors, electric window front and a power folding mirror. The seats are height adjustable but heated seats only come with the special pack.
